How it all got started
Ready2prepare was created as a direct result of a conversation that Tal Ehlers, founder of Ready2prepare, had with a business acquaintance in the summer of 2006.
“My desire to develop this service came in the summer of 2006, when war exploded between Israel and the Islamic military force, Hezbollah, residing inside Lebanon. At the time, I had a client from Albuquerque —a nice lady, approaching sixty, living with her twenty-six year old son. I happened to be speaking with her over the phone the evening that fighting had broke out, and she clearly had no interest in talking business. She asked me if I had been watching the news, to which I responded that I had, but only a little bit. She said that while watching the news, some commentator had stated that the battle between Israel and Hezbollah, with the U.S. ´s support of Israel, could cause terrorist cells in the U.S. to be activated. I never attempted to verify any of this information, and whether it was accurate or simply a gross exaggeration from cable news pundits is not of concern to us here. The chances for such an event to impact her directly are admittedly slim, but what mattered was that it scared her, and she discovered that she was clueless as to how to prepare if something truly catastrophic did happen.
For the next forty minutes, we discussed how having a two week supply of food and water would be advantageous—something beyond a seventy-two hour kit. Having two gallons of water per person per day would be wise. Storing the water in two liter bottles and not in plastic jugs would keep the water well preserved, and having food that didn´t have to be cooked would make for an easy meal should the utilities go out. We talked about keeping the gas tank on the car never below half full in the event that an evacuation is necessary, and we discussed having some cash on hand—maybe $500 to $1000—in case of emergency. After all, what good are debit and credit cards if the banks are closed and the ATM´s are out? We talked about how having a little propane heater could heat a well ventilated room if there is no other way to do so. There were simple things that fit within her budget that could give her some peace of mind right now in the event of a real emergency.”
Tal knew that she must be only one of many people across the country that would have feelings like this. Knowing that one should become personally prepared for many types of emergencies is a thought that most people have had in recent years, but the inertia of getting past “how do I begin” and “what should I buy” keeps most people from accomplishing what seems to many as an overwhelming task.
Ready2prepare can help you get from wanting and wishing to DOING! Let us show you the steps to take as you begin to personally prepare yourself for many types of emergency situations.
Feel confident in knowing that if you had to leave your home immediately and you could grab only a couple of things (like during hurricane Katrina) that you would know what to take and where these items are. Or if the weather shut down the town for a few days and the power was out (Denver, Colorado 2006) that you and your family would be OK.
We are Ready2prepare. You can now ask for the insight of a real person and talk to them about emergency preparedness.
We´re not survivalists. You´re not paranoid.
The only question remaining is “Are you Ready2Prepare?”
